From Engineers to Dog Industry Disruptors

We’re two brothers from California with a background in engineering—and a deep love for dogs. We're naturally wired to solve problems, so when we were at a vet clinic one day and overheard a conversation about a product called “pill pockets,” it sparked something.

We thought: why doesn’t the vet clinic just sell them?
Then we looked into what pill pockets actually were—and were shocked by the ingredients1.

That moment led us down a rabbit hole into the dog food and supplement industry. What we found was disappointing:

• Products full of preservatives, fillers, and synthetic additives2
  
  

• Brands hiding behind cute, cuddly marketing with misleading claims
  
  

• Very little transparency or real nutritional value3
  
  

We Built What the Fur Around 3 Core Beliefs

Ingredients should be clean, simple, and transparent.
We use real food ingredients you can recognize and pronounce—no fillers, no junk.

Wellness shouldn’t feel complicated.
Our toppers are easy to use. Just scoop, sprinkle, and serve. That’s it.

Dogs deserve better. Period.

Why We Started With Gut & Calming Support

We launched What the Fur with one goal: to solve real problems for real dogs. Our first product was the Gut Health Topper, because we saw how many dogs were struggling with digestion—loose stools, itching, bad breath, and inconsistent appetites were far too common. Gut health felt like the obvious place to start.

During our initial pop-ups, we kept hearing the same thing from dog parents:
“My dog has anxiety.”
Whether it was separation anxiety4, reactivity, or trouble settling down at night, it was clear that stress was just as widespread as gut issues.

So we listened—and got to work. That’s how our Calming Topper was born.
